Beis Din Procedure & Conduct
- Appointments run on time. Please do not be late. If you need to have a drink or use the facilities, please take care of that before the case. It is advisable to come early.
- You will be asked to be Mekabel Kinyan and sign a Shtar Borerus at the beginning of the case. By signing this Halachical document you are agreeing to accept and follow any decisions made the BD.
- The claimant will begin. The defendant should not say anything during this time, but make mental or written notes of what to say or answer when it is his turn. Do not shout or use bad language during the case.
- All cellphones should be switched off (or set to vibrate) upon entering the room.
- Bring with you any witnesses, lawyers, (or “To’en Rabbani”), letters, photographs, agreements or emails that are relevant to the case. Forgetting important documentation at home will only draw out the case.
- Some cases may require more than one sitting. A psak din will be sent to you when the Dayanim have finalized the verdict. Please be patient.
